Dropping a bunch of wheel weight, but at a cost — worth it?

I’ve really been embracing the “downcountry” bike category. For riding in Bend, Oregon, this is the ideal bike for general trail riding. We do have some areas (Mt. Bachelor’s lift served, Cline Butte, and a few others) that warrant an enduro or similar bike, but the rest of the time, the terrain is mostly hardpack, some sand (especially near the end of the season — serious “moon dust”), and then some rock.
